Hey everyone and welcome to Nicole’s corner!! This is the first of many posts of my past and future exciting adventures.
Nicole’s corner will be a blog about my life living with a spinal cord injury and the Avery Biomedical Breathing Pacemaker.
A little bit about me…
My name is Nicole and I’m 27 years old. I have lived on Long Island my whole life. When I was 4 years old I was in a car accident that resulted in a C3/C4 spinal cord injury. I am now an incomplete quadriplegic. After my car accident I was vent dependent for 7 years.
At the age of 11 years old I was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. This is when my family and I found out about the breathing pacemaker. For those who don’t know what a breathing pacemaker is; it is a phrenic nerve stimulator that gives the diaphragm the ability to move up and down which gives the person the opportunity to be vent free!
I have now been off the vent for 16 years and have led a very independent and adventurous life.
I have recently got the opportunity to work for Avery Biomedical Devices and have been working there for almost 2 years.
This blog is to spread the word about the breathing pacemaker to all of those with a spinal cord injury that are vent dependent and want to be vent free.
If you have any questions about the Breathing Pacemaker or just want to say hi please leave a comment! And don’t forget to spread the word about Nicole’s Corner!!! I look forward to sharing my stories and talking with you all.
